Recipe: Gingerbread hot cocoa

Yet another recipe from the past that I never posted because I was hung up on not having a picture. Guess what? It looks like hot cocoa. Please forgive the lack of photographic evidence and treat yourself. It’s very hyggelig.

Gingerbread Hot Cocoa

Yield: 1 mug

Adapted from: my previous versions of hot cocoa.

3 tsp cocoa powder
1 c milk
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp ginger
Sprinkle of ground cloves
Sprinkle of salt
1 tsp maple syrup
1 tsp molasses

Mix cocoa powder, spices, and salt in a mug. Microwave milk for 1 min. Add 2-3 Tbsp warmed milk to mug and whisk until thoroughly combined. Add maple syrup and molasses and stir/whisk until dissolved. Microwave remaining milk in 30 second intervals until it just starts to foam up. Add immediately to mug and stir to combine; add a bit of boiling water if a hotter, less strong drink is desired. Consume immediately, optionally garnished with whipped cream.
