Word of the Day: Reading PEM reviews edition

zwitterion: a molecule with a positive and a negative electrical charge. Not to be confused with a dipole (I think molecular dipoles are the product of covalent bonds and electronegativity, while a zwitterion is a molecule in which one segment has a positive charge and another has a negative charge).

PEM stands for polyelectrolyte microlayer, which is a thin film of anions over a thin film of cations over a thin film of anions…etc., or vice versa. I’ll be working with them this summer, so I’m reading review papers to get some background.
